Chevrolet Colorado Enlivens The SUV Segment Competition

If you look at the development of the segmentation of four-wheeled vehicles, especially in big capitals, the growth is slow and even quiet. This is because this segment is intended to be a hard worker, so that it is seen in many remote areas that are endowed with natural resources. So it is not surprising that many Brands are competing to take the position as market leader, the reason is that potential buyers are large companies that are growing from time to time.

One of the manufacturers filling this segment is Chevrolet through its product called Colorado. Chevrolet Colorado was first released on November 5, 2011 in Thailand to coincide with Chevrolet's 100th anniversary. For design, four-wheeled vehicles use the same base as the Chevrolet Trailblazer in the SUV segment. The same is true between the Toyota Hilux and the Toyota Fortuner or the Mitsubishi Strada Triton and the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

In the local market, Chevrolet Colorado has a twin brother, namely the Isuzu D-Max, which is also a rival in the same segment. Of course, this reminds us of the collaboration between the Toyota Avanza and Daihatsu Xenia or the Mazda BT-50 Gen1 and the Gen2 Ford Ranger a few years ago. Some other competitors include the Mitsubishi Strada Triton, Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max Gen2, Ford Ranger Gen3 (T6), Nissan Navara Gen2, and also the Mazda BT-50 Pro. Entering the face lift period, this four-wheeled vehicle received big rivals, namely the Nissan Navara NP300, Mazda BT-50 Pro, and the All New Mitsubishi Triton.

COLORADO EXTERIOR

In the next episode, the Chevrolet Colorado uses an eerie yet elegant and aerodynamic design with typical Chevrolet characteristics, dual port grills surrounded by chrome (LTZ) accents. For the most part, the Chevrolet Colorado has been equipped with a pair of large projectors which further enhance its fierce design. Especially for the LTZ variant, a square fog lamp is used as a standard feature to help the driver's visibility when the lighting conditions are not good.

Next up is the side episode photo pattern of the Chevrolet Colorado dual cabin version. The cabin space provided is larger when compared to the additional cabin variant, aka the additional cabin. But the rear pool area for the extended cabin variant is much longer than the dual cabin variant. Since the wheelbase of both variants is the same, it makes no difference. From this side, the appearance of the Chevrolet Colorado looks very smart, the slight curve in the back area between the pool and the cabin makes it look elegant.

As for the back episode, Chevrolet Colorado looks very handsome. At first glance, it is almost similar to the Toyota Hilux Gen2, the reason is because the sketch lamp and stop lamp dimensions are almost the same. Then what about the carrying capacity? Quite good. Because the size of the back pool is relatively large compared to other competitors, so it can make a lot of luggage. To protect the friction against the bath area, Chevrolet also gave Colorado a drop of bed liner, a layer made of black plastic.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Time to enter the interior area. A head unit with limited features without an LCD monitor. AC handle is still manual, does not apply climate control. Even so, it offers factual value for some people who like to explore offroad areas, the reason is that maintenance of electrical components is easier and cheaper. Just imagine if he used an expensive aftermarket audio part, it would definitely break down in the long run as well and need enough repairs to spend too.

As seen in the cabin photo of the Chevrolet Colorado above, you can see that the entire dashboard area is wrapped in a dark sketch. It is suitable for four-wheeled vehicles that work hard because if at any time you enter the cabin dirty, small stains will be disguised. For the design itself, it is relatively minimalist, there is no luxurious impression that is emphasized except in the steering area because the audio switch control feature and the system change button are in the form of a rotary pioneer model, not a lever like the others. off road vehicles.

Don't forget to also explore the rear cabin area. Indeed, these double cabins can carry up to five passengers with sufficient assistance. But don't expect SUV-like comfort. This is because the rear seats of the Colorado Chevrolet are not completely adjustable according to what the passenger dreams of unless folded flat. Understandably, the target market for double cabins or light trucks is not for everyday use in cities.

MACHINE PERFORMANCE

In the kitchen runway sector, a double cabin assembled in Thailand is equipped with two engine options. For the 4x2 drive variant, it uses a diesel engine with an inter cooled turbo with a capacity of 2.5 liters and can produce a maximum power of up to 150 HP at 3,800 RPM rotation and 350 Nm of peak torque at 2,000 RPM assisted by a 5-speed manual transmission.

In addition, there is a diesel engine with a larger capacity which also relies on a turbo inter cooler, the 2.8 liter engine. The maximum power is 180 HP at 3,600 RPM and the torque reaches 470 Nm at 2,000 RPM. For this engine variant, it is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Like a typical diesel engine with CRDi injection technology, these two engines have relatively little power, but with rhino torque, this is the key to gobbling up light to medium off road areas.

It's time to move on to the test drive session. When driving on less smooth asphalt, the suspension offers a precise kick. In that sense it is neither bad nor too special. However, when compared to its opponents, the Chevy Colorado suspension is quite comfortable, the reason behind the episode is not soaring like a typical double cabin. It's just that, the symptoms of body roll are often felt when passing corners. For handling too, it's just right. Feedback or response from the power steering with the pinion rack type that it carries is comfortable to use so it doesn't vibrate violently when entering high speeds. Especially for the 2.8 L variant, Chevrolet also provides features for driving stability similar to traction control, ESP, EBD to Brake Assist.
